The free web-based music software Audiotool, together with the streaming company Revry, announced a composition competition in which the contestants, using this very software, were expected to compose a song for the credits of the QueerX Awards – an annual awards ceremony for the LGBTQ+ community that celebrates and recognizes its wide range of talents and contributions.

As a tribute to this hard-hit community, I decided to compose a contribution where I try to create something extremely over-the-top, intense, pop, flamboyant and burlesque that will make the driest music critics blush and put their hearts in the pit of their throats and which exudes a pride in breaking society's norms.

As a music software, Audiotool is well suited for electronic dance music and offers a number of synths and effects of a simpler nature as well as a large sample library mainly dominated by various drum and percussion samples and loops. However, there is no sampler, so those who want to work with “instrument-like sounds” have the option of either trying to synthesize these from scratch or recording them with a microphone. In this song I have therefore synthesized all the melodious sounds as well as some of the drum sounds from scratch, including the whistle, the Hammond organ etc.

Den gratis webbaserade musikprogramvaran Audiotool utlyste tillsammans med streamingföretaget Revry en kompositionstävling där de tävlande med hjälp av just denna programvara förväntades komponera en låt för eftertexterna till QueerX Awards – en årlig prisutdelningsgala för HBTQ+-gemenskapen som hyllar och uppmärksammar dess breda utbud av talanger och bidrag.

Som en hyllning till denna hårt utsatta gemenskap bestämde jag mig för att komponera ett bidrag där jag försöker åstadkomma något extremt ”over-the-top” intensivt, poppigt, flärdigt och burleskt som får de torraste musikkritikerna att rodna och sätta hjärtat i halsgropen och som utstrålar en stolthet över att bryta mot samhällets normer.

Audiotool är som musikprogramvara väl lämpad för elektronisk dansmusik och erbjuder ett antal syntar och effekter av enklare karaktär samt ett stort samplingsbibliotek framförallt dominerat av diverse trum- och percussionsamplingar och -loopar. Någon sampler finns dock inte, så den som vill jobba med ”instrumentliknande ljud” har som alternativ att antingen försöka syntetisera dessa från grunden eller spela in dem med en mikrofon. I denna låt har jag därför syntetiserat alla melodiösa ljud samt några av trumljuden från grunden, inklusive visslingen, hammondorgeln etc.
