The word *stochastic* – from the Greek stochos, meaning aim or guess – refers to mathematical models and processes that have an element of randomness. Stochastic music thus refers to music that has been created through stochastic models. Anyone who is familiar with the concept of stochastic music is certainly familiar with the Greek universal genius Iannis Xenakis (1922–2001) – among other things, a pioneer in stochastic music that's commonly based on stochastic processes found in nature, such as the chaotic behaviors of gas molecules (Pithoprakta, 1955–56).

While it is certainly possible, like Xenakis, to make music that "faithfully" adheres to the outcome of such processes, they are not used in as direct a sense in this work. Instead, large quantities of stochastic music have been generated through computer algorithms (nearly 2 ½ hours of music) and the most interesting parts – in the composer's opinion – have been seized and developed through arguably the most enigmatic stochastic process known to humanity, namely human intuition. Therefore, this can be called a *metastochastic* work.

Ordet *stokastik* – från grekiskans stochos, vilket betyder förmodan eller gissning – syftar på matematiska modeller och processer som har inslag av slumpen. Med stokastisk musik åsyftas således musik som har skapats genom stokastiska modeller. Den som är bekant med begreppet stokastisk musik känner säkerligen till det grekiske universalgeniet Iannis Xenakis (1922–2001) – bland annat pionjär inom stokastisk musik som gärna baseras på naturliga stokastiska processer, såsom gasmolekylers kaosartade rörelsemönster (Pithoprakta, 1955–56).


Medan det är fullt möjligt att liksom Xenakis skapa musik som "bokstavstroget" håller sig till utfallet av sådana processer, nyttjas de inte i lika direkt mening i detta verk. Istället har stora kvantiteter stokastisk musik genererats genom datoralgoritmer (närmare 2 ½ timmes musik) och de – i tonsättarens mening – mest intressanta delarna tagits tillvara på och utvecklats genom den debatterbart mest gåtfulla stokastiska processen mänskligheten har skådat, nämligen mänsklig intuition. Därför kan man kalla detta för ett *metastokastiskt* verk.
